Commercial Affairs and advertising, entertainment and sports, health care, telecommunications and communications, and insurance, are among the businesses subject to new rules.
The federal government, which is considering changes to a series of rules governing the industry, says it expects to issue rules in the coming months.
A spokeswoman for the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) said Monday that the agency was not aware of any instances of “inappropriate or illegal conduct by businesses or individuals.”
The Office of Government Ethics (OGE) has warned that the rules could make it harder for businesses to compete.
The agency has been working to revise its rules since February.OIG issued a statement on Monday warning that the changes could make “certainly many” businesses “more difficult to compete in the marketplace.”
The OIG said the changes “may have unintended consequences for the competitiveness of certain sectors of the economy.”
